We are looking for a Power Line Technician (Linesperson) to perform construction powerline utility work, including: constructing, operating and maintaining the Transmission and Distribution system and equipment in accordance with company standards, policies and procedures. The Powerline Technician Journeyperson will also support the development of apprentices and other new employees.

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor and working in an exciting and unique environment within the Iron Ore Company of Canada, you will be:

  • Working safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards – actively participating, and engaging in safety initiatives promoting our “Zero harm” safety culture
  • Constructs, operates, inspects and maintains overhead power lines, substation and related apparatus such as substation breakers, reclosures, gang switches and fusing
  • Performs system switching, ensuring adherence to Electrical Operations Standards and necessary clearances/permits are obtained
  • Carries out maintenance and planned programs and system inspections in accordance with yearly plan and ensures proper documentation
  • Identifies and evaluates operating problems and assists in determining long term/short term solutions. This includes diagnosing overhead line faults for cause
  • Adheres to applicable safety and environmental standards and regulations
  • May lead, coach and mentor apprentices and co-workers, as is required
  • Other duties as assigned, based on operational needs and based on employee competencies and training

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician (Newfoundland Labrador) or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Powerline Technician (if out-of-province)
  • Valid Class 3 and 8 vehicle operator's license (air brake endorsement)
  • Willingness to be trained as a Heavy Equipment Operator (i.e.: excavator and front end loader operator)
  • Ability to follow safety regulations and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment required for the work, such as hand tools, chainsaws, chain and strap hoists, etc
  • Physical abilities to climb utility poles, and perform lineman rescues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well in a team environment

The Material Handler position is a great way to begin your career with Wexxar. Gaining experience in Material handling opens up doors to higher paying positions within the company. The Material Handler is responsible for material handling duties including, but not limited to:

  • Picking machine part orders;
  • Lift and move various items weighing up to 50lbs;
  • Entering data into computerized system;
  • Move various items utilizing a forklift;
  • Function in an industrial environment in a safe manner in accordance with WorkSafeBC laws and regulations and Company policies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Blueprint reading course or equivalent preferred;

We are looking for a Human Resources Advisor to be responsible in providing human resource support to leaders and employees and provide coaching on the application of Human Resources Systems. This role is critical in ensuring the fair and consistent application of Human Resources policies, procedures and processes.

Reporting to the Human Resources, Team Lead, located at the Lac de Gras Mine Site, you will be working on a 1 week on/1 week off rotation. You will be responsible for:

  • Providing human resource support to Human Resource Business Partners, leaders and employees;
  • Assisting in implementation of human resources programs and policies within the business;
  • Supporting leaders and Human Resource Business Partners with the implementation of operational projects and recurring annual activities such as salary review, talent review and performance management;
  • Advising on human resources policies and procedures, employee relations, performance, labour and regulatory issues;
  • Providing coaching to leaders to support effective workplace relationships and increase skill level in employee management;
  • Conducting investigations into breaches of policy and procedure;
  • Leading special projects and other initiatives (e.g., employee engagement, performance and capability improvement, attractions and retention initiatives);
  • Identifying improvement initiatives in human resources processes.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or any related discipline;
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar capacity with HR Generalist function in a large organization;
  • Solid understanding of key HR drivers of business success;
  • Good working knowledge of a range of HR functions (HR, payroll, benefits, talent, etc.) and how they interrelate;
  • Knowledge and experience with the Workers Compensation Act of the Northwest Territories;
  • Excellent understanding of our “Duty to Accommodate” and the Human Rights Act, Canadian Occupational Health and Safety legislation, policies and regulations;
  • Proven ability to successfully implement and manage short term and long-term disability cases;
  • Proficient working knowledge of HRIS (HR Information Systems) and employee database software;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating HR technical information for the target audience from senior leaders to operators.

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets.
