Capes for Kids Event Assistant

Temporary; 13-week contract position starting in December 2022

70/30 split of in-person and remote work (to be schedule with Officer, Community Engagement). 100% in-person during Capes Week, March 3, 6-10.

About The Role:

Reporting to the Officer, Community Engagement, the Capes for Kids Event Assistant will support the fundraising activities of the Capes for Kids campaign. Organization, creativity, and a can-do attitude are the superpowers most needed in this role, along with an authentic passion for our work to create a world of possibilities for kids with disabilities. As a passionate ambassador for Holland Bloorview, you will help steward fundraisers and engage new volunteers, families, event participants, and organizations.

This position will work closely with all members of the Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) team and staff from across the organization. Holland Bloorview’s CPE team is comprised of both Hospital and Foundation colleagues. Working in unison, they build brand awareness, promote acceptance and inclusion of childhood disability, and engage the community to support philanthropic giving to Holland Bloorview.

About Capes for Kids

Capes for Kids supports Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Canada’s largest rehabilitation hospital for children and youth with disabilities and complex medical needs. From March 3 – 10, 2023, thousands of people will join together and unleash their inner superhero by putting on a cape and raising money to help kids move, speak, play and lead at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Since its inception in 2017, Capes for Kids has raised over $4 million for Holland Bloorview through a team of enthusiastic and dedicated families, individuals, businesses and schools who become heroes by fundraising and wearing their capes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service and stewardship to fundraisers
  • Monitor the Capes for Kids email to ensure all inquiries are responded to in a timely manner
  • Assist with Capes for Kids events (in-person and virtual), internal staff events and external general public events
  • Assist the Capes for Kids Team with collateral distribution
  • Support creating and distributing stewardship materials
  • Prepare emails for staff and school outreach and fundraising activities
  • Distribute weekly update reports to Capes for Kids team
  • Provide additional backend support on Engaging Networks as needed
  • Assist with list management including email and mailing list requests
  • Support Capes for Kids cape pick-ups as needed, including evening and weekend time slots between February 1 and March 10, 2023
  • Support Outreach Coordinator and Outreach Facilitator on Imagine Everybody presentations to schools by incorporating Capes for Kids segment (TBD)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to achieve tasks with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented and can process information with accuracy and speed
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external clients
  • Customer service background is preferred
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database is preferred
  • Experience with online donation tools, preferably Engaging Networks
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Outlook and Zoom
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative as required
  • Respect the confidentiality and privacy of donors
  • Experience working with children and/or with vulnerable populations an asset
  • Comfortable presenting in front of school groups (10-100 attendees)
  • Highly flexible with a positive, can-do attitude

This contract will be scheduled as such:

December 12-15 (4-day work week)

December 19-22 (4-day work week)

January 3rd through to March 17th (5-day work weeks, with possibility to extend to end of March)
