Position Description:
  • Develop the course content within university academic guidelines;
  • Research and include the historical, current and future landscape of content creation;
  • Prepare course outlines and final exams/projects;
  • Create assignments and marking rubrics;
  • Deliver course curriculum in classroom, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques;
  • Creating an effective environment for learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and individual learning styles.
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles.
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process.
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques. Providing individual tutoring and academic counselling, and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses.
  • Include relevant material with appropriate copyright and permissions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant experience in teaching students in a post-secondary environment;
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary setting, either in-person or online, is a definite asset.
  • Superior communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Lived Indigenous experience
  • Candidates who have experience working within Indigenous contexts and/or sincere, demonstrable interest in contributing to the Indigenization of curricula are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position: On-Call Digital Literacy Coaches (DLC) – Service Delivery Innovation (SDI)

Remote Access to Digital Literacy for Newcomers Research (RADLTN) Project

  • Two (2) On-Call Position. Training will start January 2023 which is 14 hours in total. After that they would be called if needed to sub when the cohorts are being delivered.

SUMMARY:

Provides tutoring and/or support for participants during the field testing stage for the RADLTN project, according to the test interventions assigned (1-on-1, group or self-access). Produces client progress reports, provides feedback on test interventions and resources used as well as input into the evaluation process and funder reports.

REPORTING TO: Project Lead

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Successfully completes digital literacy tutor training course provided by ISSofBC in advance of the field-testing stage.

Assists in the recruitment of clients for the field-testing stage for Cohort 1 and 2.

Provides tutoring/coaching to clients in the 1-on-1 and/or group interventions for each Cohort being field tested. Each Cohort runs for 48 hours over a 12-week period. May be assigned to support clients in the remote access intervention.

Inputs data into ISSofBC’s New Track database to track attendance, digital tasks taught, and digital task assessments.

Participates in meetings as needed either in person or remotely for project updates. Submits written feedback on intervention models, on project resources and field testing of Cohort 1 and 2. Completes client progress reports and submits to Project Lead.

Provides input for funder reports

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree from a recognized university OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the employer. Supplemented by a further two (2) years of facilitator experience working with adults, ideally with newcomers with various English levels and low digital skills. Demonstrated proficiency with current technology tools and online video conferencing platform.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Previous experience coaching/tutoring adults with their digital literacy skills

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks with minimal supervision and ability to meet tight deadlines.

Ability to take direction and work in teams, in addition to having strong initiative.

Ability to communicate fluently and accurately in both written and oral English.

Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients, staff and the public who may come from differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Understanding of adult learning, digital literacy needs and some experience with working with clients with low levels of English (Literacy to CLB 3).

Additional Language spoken is an asset.

Ability to set and maintain boundaries with staff and clients and manage self-care

Ability to obtain and maintain a clear criminal records check

Ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Previous experience providing digital support to clients, especially remotely through Zoom or other video conferencing platform, is an asset.

Qualifications:

Learning Transformation Specialist - English as an Additional Language (Terrace)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a regular term Learning Transformation Specialist: English as an Additional Language (LTS-EAL). This appointment will commence as soon as possible for a one-year term. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor scale.

Duties: Reporting the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching, in the Centre of Learning Transformation (COLT) the LTS-EAL is responsible for planning and delivering programming in the areas of academic communication, including academic expectations, reading, writing, speaking and research support for students who have English as an additional language. The LTS-ESL will also support Academic departments and faculty in developing programming and curriculum to support skill development.

Illustrative sample of tasks:

  • Deliver programming to International and/or EAL students, including:
    • instructing students on academic communication skills in a Canadian post-secondary setting, including reading, writing, class participation, critical thinking, pronunciation and academic integrity
    • evaluate programming based on measurable outcomes and modify to address student needs
    • develop programming and instructional materials that support all campus locations and is accessible in person or online
  • Support faculty on curriculum, assignment and evaluation design with an EAL lens
    • Develop and facilitate workshops supporting faculty in inclusive assessment practices and supporting EAL skill development in the classroom
  • Support the needs of the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching, including report writing, quality assurance, program evaluation, and document preparation

Qualifications

A graduate degree in a directly related discipline (e.g. Linguistics, EAL), as well as certification in TESL Canada or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants who have lived experience with English as an additional language. An equivalent combination of education, skills and extensive experience will be considered.

Required skills and abilities include:

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects and personnel, including faculty
  • Two years teaching experience in group and individual tutoring in a post-secondary environment
  • Proven record of team engagement with post-secondary faculty
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current trends in academic supports for EAL and International students
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the complex nature of academic skill development and how it interacts with diversity and communication skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and evaluation practices
